A Birth Pool Can Mean A More Natural Labor.

Using a birth pool to have your baby is becoming a more and more popular choice for many women these days. Many of the inflatable birth pools you can buy now are second generation pools which have been developed with the help of midwives and mothers. Today's birth pools are much more robust, comfortable, safe and hygienic to use.

We would recommend using an inflatable birth pool which comes with disposable liners for added hygiene. When you give birth in your pool you should always use a brand new liner to minimise infection risk. Using a liner makes cleaning up a breeze.

Many new mothers who have given birth in a birth pool have reported a very positive experience. The feedback indicates that the warm water has a nice relaxing effect which allows the labor to go much more smoothly.

Contrary to what you may have been told it is just as safe to give birth in water as it is traditionally according to recent research. In fact there is evidence to suggest that using a birth pool to give birth can make your baby's transition into the world a calmer experience. It is common for midwives to report that water birth babies, when they come to meet us, don't cry nearly as hard as babies born in the air.

Before you consider a water birth you should always consult your midwife. You will need to find out whether your hospital has birth pool facilities if you wish to give birth in hospital. Due to the popularity of water births most hospitals now have this facility.

They're still does seem to be some resistance to this method of childbirth in the medical establishment so you should try to find out how your hospital feels about water births as some are more keen than others. Many mothers have reported that hospital staff have actively discouraged them from having a water birth.

If you are considering buying a birth pool you are obviously wanting to have your baby at home. In principle there is no problem having a water birth at home and you may even find that your midwife will be able to arrange for you to borrow a pool.

It is unfortunate but there are many reasons why you may not be able to use a birth pool at home. However there should be no problem in using the birth pool if you are only expecting the one baby, your baby is in the normal head-down position, your labor begins naturally on its own, your blood pressure is within normal limits, you have a healthy baby with no distress signs and your waters broke fewer than 36 hours ago with clear amniotic fluid.

My wife and I successfully used an inflatable birth pool for our first child and our little one seemed to respond really well. Our beautiful daughter appeared to be very calm immediately after the birth and for Mom it was a very positive experience with very little intervention required from our attendees :)

I can highly recommend using a birth pool if at all possible.
